| There wasn't any wiring as mine were drop in too. The "fab" was just making a new cover because the real issue isn't just the bulb brightness as much as it's the old yellowing covers that diffuse away most of the light. You'd still want to remove those if you got the cheaper LED or maybe try new Nissan ones (though I bet they'd be over $10) =) 
So yeah those are definitely a hair easier and a hair cheaper but probably nowhere near as effective. Still a good solution for most people though!
